Information on the Graduated Repayment Program

Similar to the Standard repayment program, the graduated program is another basic repayment option that doesn’t have any forgiveness once you’re done repaying on your loans. The intent of the program was to provide a lower monthly payment in the beginning with it gradually increasing every two years, hence the name graduated repayment!  One main disadvantage for this program is that you will pay more with this program as you would when comparing to the standard program. The loans that qualify for this program include:

• Direct Subsidized Loans

• Direct Unsubsidized Loans

• Direct PLUS Loans

• Direct Consolidation Loans

• Subsidized Federal Stafford Loans

• Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans

• FFEL PLUS Loans

• FFEL Consolidation Loans

Let us continue to use John D as an example on how these programs work as well. With his $30,000.00 loan under the graduated program his monthly would start off at $199 and then will rise all the way up to $597 a month for 24 months, with a total payout of $44,581.

Like the standard program, the graduated program offers an extended repayment term as well. Known as the extended graduated program. Continuing to use john as the example, his payments will be $170 for the first two years and for the last two years he will end up with a payment of $297 for the last two years.  His total payout for his $30,000.00 would be $67,664.00. More than double than what he originally took out.  Generally, people that deiced to use this repayment option are the ones that know for sure that their income will be significantly improving year after year.  Another major setback with the graduated program is that this as well as the Standard repayment program are not an “Income Driven Repayment” option. Meaning that your monthly payments will not be determined by your income but solely based off of your original loan amount and repayment term. Just as in a traditional loan

WHAT CLIENTS SAY

"Before I came across Student Loan Help Info, I was struggling to pay $273 every month towards my student loans. A friend of mine referred me to this place and I was a little weary at first. The woman I spoke to was very helpful and informative, so I decided to move forward and they helped me get into a $0 monthly payment. Now my student loans are one less thing I worry about."

WHAT CLIENTS SAY

"Hi! I am Jessica. I graduated in 2010 with all the hope to build a career in teaching. My loans totaled over $40,000. I had a job at the time and didn’t make a lot of money so supporting my two kids wasn’t easy. I started falling behind with my payments and eventually fell into default. Luckily, I found Student Loan Help Info through an online search, and they were able to help get me out of default and into a forgiveness program. I couldn’t be happier!"
